Indian art

these images are of an Indian art called rangoli. These designs, usually made from colored rice powder or flowers are used as auspicious markings for religious festivals. They are used especially this time of the year as diwali or the festival of light approaches. I have seen flower rangolis decorate top Indian hotel foyers instead of your normalish vase of flowers.

more from the cafe

This is our menu board with a beautiful picture of Ganesha hand drawn by one of our customers in exchange for a meal! On the other side is IKEA wall decals with little felt flower coasters.

New lights

I further indulged my love for design by getting these felt marble lights fitted into my cafe this week. They took so long to get here from London where they are on permanent display in the Design museum. Cool!

my son's room

Being an interior designer would be a dream job for me. But I am a chef and I dovetail my desires by decorating my house and my cafe. These are some pics of my son's room that I updated recently. I don't have before pics, just after ones! My favourite things are respectively the most expensive and least expensive in here, the Florence Broadhurst wallpaper and the second hand M&M dispenser.

summer wishlist

Every summer most of Sydney comes to Byron bay to enjoy it's beaches but I like to go to my favourite city Sydney to enjoy the great home wares stores there. Among my wish list is this beautiful arabesque lamp from my favourite store Papaya and these cushions(paisley) from baubridge and kay.

sunday 21st.

So many colours together but they work so beautifully. It looks like wearable art with all the intricate embroidery. I love all things made in India.

PEACOCK

I love these new line of bags by apple & bee, not only for the peacocks but also the recyclable materials they are made from.

18th sept. PANEER

since my title has paneer in it, I thought that I would share with you pictures of paneer that I made the other day at my cafe. I curdled 30L of milk to come to the stage on the left (a bit like ricotta cheese). The finished product looked like the one on the right. 170 succulent pieces of paneer soaked in seasoned tomato gravy! YUM!

My son calls this chair the peace and love chair, with all it's rainbow colours. It is actually made from recycled boat parts in Indonesia and is so comfortable. That is indeed paisleys on the cushion!

15th of september

I have been working on my side table for a while, adding and subtracting things. This is what I ended up with. The flowers are from my garden and they go nicely with my red wallpaper.
